Residential Solar FAQs

Is residential solar a viable investment?

Yes, residential solar is definitely a viable investment. Making the most of the current government rebate the average payback for a 6.5kW Solar system is 3-5 Years. With solar inverter and panel warranties now exceeding 10 years, your savings will continue well into the future.

What size solar energy system should I get?

G-Solar & Electrical specialise in designing solar systems to suit all levels of energy use. With systems available from 6-13kW, we offer free quotes tailored to your household's average consumption. We also take into consideration potential future changes, such as whether you plan to install a pool.
With the Queensland government offering rebates to homeowners who install solar energy systems, you can now get the right system in the right size for your household at a more affordable price. There's never been a better time to go solar at home!

Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

The most common misconception when it comes to residential solar systems is “my roof must face north”. While North facing roofs provide great power during the middle of the day, there are definitely advantages of having solar panels that may face East or West as they can provide you power at varying times of the day.

(For example if you are someone that likes to do your washing/cleaning in earlier sun hours of the day, then an East facing array may benefit you more than North.)

If I have trees around my property will solar be worth it?

The amount of shading on your roof will determine the type of system most beneficial for you. For instance if you have no shading then a DC or AC system will be fine, however if you have shading then we may recommend an AC solar system, as by design it can handle shading due to panel optimization. In a nutshell if part of the roof is shaded, the rest of the system will not be affected.

How many years can I expect returns from a solar system?

We highly recommend using quality equipment with proven long term warranties that give our clients peace of mind. Quality products paired with our preventative maintenance plans, will ensure you will get the most reliability and efficiency out of your system for many years to come.

Will my solar work when the power goes out?

It is a safety feature of standard grid tied solar inverters to shut off when the grid loses power. This is to ensure no power is fed back to the grid, which can endanger electrical grid workers who maybe fixing the infrastructure during and outage. If your require power continuity, we also sell hybrid inverters which will retain power to selected circuits during a grid outage with the utilisation of battery backup system.

Is there still a government rebate available?

There is still a government rebate available for all residential and commercial customers who install systems under 100KW. There is a lot of misinformation about this in the industry. Clever marketers like to tell you the rebate is ending to entice you to buy now, but the facts are that the rebate is slowly reducing in amount (0.65%) each year until 2030. The current electricity rebate for a standard home is approx $3800. The current rebate for commercial solar installs varies according to the size of the system you install from $3,800 to $60,000.

Do you use sub contractors for solar installations?

No, we prefer to employ highly skilled and qualified tradesman who uphold our high level of workmanship. We are not a fly by night solar sales company that just gets any subcontractor to install for them at the cheapest rate, then disappear of the face of the earth.

Do you have finance options available?

Yes, we have partnered with credible and cost effective Solar Finance companies who can make the process quick and easy for you.

Can I take my solar system with me to my next property?

The short answer is yes, however the costs to transfer a system are likely more prohibitive then purchasing a new system.

Do I need to replace my roof before installing solar?

It is always recommended to have your roof area inspected before the installation of solar panels. Rectification works to your roof area is a much more simple task before your Solar Installation. We complete a thorough inspection of all our customers roofs prior to installation.

Can I go off grid with solar panels?

Yes, going off grid is a great way to protect our environment and to ensure you will not have to pay another electricity bill. However, our recommendation if you are already connected to the electricity grid and you were looking at a battery system would be a hybrid set-up for affordability and reliability.

Hybrid energy systems will run entirely separate to the electricity grid while there is charge in your energy storage. Once your battery storage becomes depleted or there is not enough solar energy to power your house, electricity will then be taken from the electricity grid.

If your Hybrid Solar System is sized correctly for your energy usage, very minimal electricity will be purchased from your energy provider.

G-Solar Designed a 30kW system for our industrial workshop. Having primarily a daytime load we were an excellent candidate for solar. We are now saving 80% on our electricity costs and couldn't be happier.

PeterBayview Heights

Grant and the team from G-Solar did a great job. Grant made the solar process very easy with a no fuss approach. His savings estimates were very accurate and everything was explained to us along the way. We went with the Solar Finance option meaning we did not have to pay a cent for the solar up front. Our savings are much greater than our repayments and in 3 years the system will be paid off. Very happy with the service.
